Values and projects

Respect for marine biodiversity

TORE TORE is committed to respecting and preserving the rich marine biodiversity of French Polynesia, with an emphasis on the protection of sharks as essential species for the balance of marine ecosystems.

Education and awareness

We value public education and awareness of issues related to shark conservation. Our association strives to inform the local and international community about the crucial importance of preserving these often misunderstood marine predators.

Collaboration with local communities

Our association values close collaboration with local communities, fishermen, scientists and government authorities. Together, we are working to develop inclusive solutions for shark protection, incorporating the perspectives and needs of all stakeholders involved.

Commitment to scientific research

TORE TORE actively supports scientific research on sharks by collaborating with experts to increase knowledge about the behavior, migration and biology of the different species found in Polynesian waters.

PROGRAMS & PROJECTS

At Tore Tore, we dedicate our programs and projects to the protection of sharks in French Polynesia. Our community engagement involves collaboration with socio-economic stakeholders, while our actions against finning and illegal fishing strengthen shark conservation. Through our educational program, we transmit to younger generations the importance of sharks for a healthy marine ecosystem and our culture. In partnership with policy makers, we work to create strengthened environmental policies for the protection of sharks and their habitats.

CULTURE

The shark occupies a central and emblematic place in Polynesian culture, imbued with a rich mythology that transcends generations. A symbol of power, respect and connection with the ocean, the shark has deep spiritual meaning. Preserving this cultural heritage, Tore Tore is committed to safeguarding not only shark species, but also associated beliefs. By recognizing the importance of the shark in Polynesian culture, we strengthen collective awareness of the need to protect these marine predators, thus helping to preserve a unique cultural identity while ensuring the balance of marine ecosystems.

EDUCATION

Our preschool education program aims to teach the younger generation about the importance of sharks and the role they play in maintaining a healthy ocean ecosystem. We work with government and schools to provide educational materials to promote awareness and understanding of sharks.

SCIENCE

Tiger Tracker Program. Our scientific initiative dedicated to the tiger shark aims for an in-depth understanding of this iconic species. Through photo-identification and genetic analysis, we track these predators individually, creating a crucial database for research and conservation. Looking to the future, the program will incorporate tagging devices for real-time data. The tiger shark, our association's mascot, thus becomes the symbol of proactive protection, illustrating our ongoing commitment to preserving these magnificent creatures and promoting marine biodiversity.

ILLEGAL FISHING

Urgent protection. Despite the status of a global shark sanctuary in Polynesia, persistent intrusions by fishing vessels into our EEZ seriously threaten these species. Tore Tore is stepping up the fight to stop the killing of sharks, ensuring the preservation of this natural sanctuary and its crucial ecosystem.

VALORIZATION OF THE SANCTUARY

By highlighting our immense shark sanctuary, Tore Tore aims to promote the exceptional diversity of our marine fauna and flora which depends on it. We actively work to raise awareness, inspire and preserve this natural gem, aware that promoting its richness contributes to its sustainable preservation.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION

Tore Tore is stepping up the promotion of our shark sanctuary through captivating videos and documentaries. This immersive approach helps share marine splendor, educate the public about the importance of sharks and mobilize global support for conservation. Through impactful visual media, we aim to inspire awe and spark concrete action to safeguard this unique natural treasure.
